Johnson floats overtime plan to spur jobs and curb costs

Washington sources say the administration seeks legislation to raise overtime pay, expand coverage for the federal minimum wage, and study automation. The plan aims to create about 990,000 jobs by extending time and a half rules while avoiding spiraling labor costs, with final decisions pending.

William Ulyses Oaks 74 Dies in Norton Virginia

Funeral services for William Ulyses Oaks age 74 were held at 2 p.m. today at the First Christian Church with Rev. C. H. Dudisy officiating. Interment followed in Middlesboro Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Oaks moved to Middlesboro 73 years ago from Union County Tennessee and was a fifty year member of Pinnavie Lodge No. 681 FRAM. Kentucky Woman Held in Bank Theft

A Kentucky woman identified as Carolyn Sue Ward Bailey 23 of Mt Sterling was accused of using a threatening note to rob the Third National Bank in Nashville. She stole two paper bags of money totaling $19,850 before being chased down by a teller and returned to the bank for questioning. Her mother said she had been released from Eastern State Hospital months earlier and had a history of mental illness.

Two Wrecks Reported by Middlesboro Police

Middlesboro police reported two wrecks yesterday with no injuries. One occurred Wednesday night on Old Nas towy Road at Gibson Lane when a car driven by Robert Williams collided into a rear of a car driven by Chester Mass of Monarch Kentucky. The other involved Pat Miller of Middlesboro and M A Brooks of Ewing Virginia at the intersection of 18th Street and Cumberland Avenue at about 10 30 a m with both drivers turning as cars approached. no injuries were reported.

Kennedy Sukarno Agree On Malaysia Crisis Talks

Attorney General Robert F Kennedy met with Indonesian President Sukarno to agree that the Malaysia crisis should be resolved by consultation. Both sides termed the talks cordial and a second round was planned for Saturday. Kennedy will travel to the Philippines for talks with President Diosdado Macapagal before a possible stop in Kuala Lumpur to meet Prime Minister Abdul Razak.
