Altruism Debate Roils Psychology Scholars
In New York on January 12 1672 Dr D C Hebb of McGill and Harvard psychologist Dennis Krebs debated whether pure altruism exists. Hebb argued animals superior brains show selfless acts at cost, while Krebs warned animal data remain inconclusive. Empathy studies may eventually prove or disprove pure human altruism.

Army Private Walter J. Lawson Jr. 8, of Pineville Route 1 has joined the 2nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg North Carolina as a rifleman in Company C 2nd Battalion 504th Infantry. He enlisted in May 1971 and trained at Fort Jackson South Carolina with his last assignment at Fort Benning Georgia. A Belt County High School graduate of 1971 he joins the service amid domestic food-use statistics noting the average American family of four consumes more than 20 tons annually.
