A violent blaze swept Rosewood last night following a report involving a Black person and a young White woman. Authorities are handling the investigation as residents reel from the confrontation and fear of further unrest.
Police hold Gilie Jones, a divorcee, without bail after a shooting death in her Louisville apartment. The victim is Oscar L. Black, a wealthy car dealer. Ex-husband Jonas rushes in and urges reconciliation or remarriage if she is cleared.

The Lexington church approved Grey as its new pastor last week and he may decide after hearing the call. Grey has daily letters from out of town friends urging acceptance, while Talbot is known as a Sunday school expert and eloquent preacher. The public is invited to hear both sermons.
The Middlesboro Kiwanis Club held a brisk installation night at the Huel Chamberlain clubroom. Retiring Secretary C. G. Smyth and Vice President Jack Inman spoke, new officers C. A. Blackburn and J. W. Bradner were placed, and directors named. President A. P. Liehig and others stressed service, cooperation, and planning for drives and the convention. Committees for program, membership, attendance, reception, and house were appointed to guide the year.
Danville January 5 Claude D Minor former cashier of Peoples Bank and Trust Company of Perryville was indicted on charges tied to the bank’s collapse last October. His case was continued in circuit court through the April term as attorney George Stone of Danville was reported ill. Minor, former president of the State Bankers Association, represented Boyle County and was a key figure in the 1922 legislature.

Frankfort January 5 The State Banking Department unveiled a standard of excellence for Kentucky banks to rate overall performance. Banks examined after January 1 will be graded 0 to 100 across loans directors duties bookkeeping capital and surplus overdrifts and insurance. An excellent grade requires 85 or more and an honor roll designation awaits those achieving it.

Harlan Virginia January 3 map work on a proposed tunnel to Haron way was filed at the courthouse. Surveyors for the Southeastern Railroad Company of Virginia are locating the line fifteen miles above High Splint and three fifths of a mile through Black Mountain toward Southern at Reakee. The Southern Railway incorporation papers are under discussion in this matter.
A midnight motorist near Jeffersonville Indiana reports sighting a flaming cross set by robed figures across the Ohio River from Louisville Kentucky. About twenty participants left the scene in automobiles after the observer extinguished the fire to prevent property damage.
