Adair County Nips Middlesboro 64 62 In Comeback Win

Adair County rallied to defeat Middlesboro 64 to 62 on the winner’s floor after trailing at halftime. John Gibbons scored 20 and Pat Sharpe 11 for Adair with four players in double figures, while Hazel Green beat Clay County 71 62 and other area results were noted.

Diddle Critical After Heart Attack On Western Campus

E A Diddle former Western Kentucky University head coach improved but critical after heart attack Saturday on campus. The 14 year old misprint aside, Diddle known for 769 basketball wins retired 1964 after 42 seasons. Arena on campus bears his name.

Colorado Rolls Past Alabama In Liberty Bowl Thriller

Colorado dominated Alabama 47-33 in the Liberty Bowl, feasting on a 40-33 edge after denying a late Tide comeback. Bob Anderson rushed for 254 yards with two and three yard scores while Ned Hayden fueled Alabama’s rally with two TD passes before the Buffaloes’ pressure and a safety sealed the win. Lombardi Has Skins On Winning Timetable

Vince Lombardi’s Washington Redskins improved to 7-4-2 with a 17-14 win over the New Orleans Saints, their first winning season since 1935. Curt Knight’s 19-yard field goal sealed the victory after Harraway scored twice, while Edd Hargett led a late Saints comeback. UPI wire reports show Kentucky men’s team rolling over Indiana in a high scoring test as Issel and Parker lead with strong fourth quarter push. Indiana pressed late, but Kentucky built a 17 point halftime lead and held on to win 108 to 63 as Cooke led with 28 points and Pratt added 21. In other action Oakland clinched Western Division in AFL with a 16 point win over Kansas City. Malcolm Milne won the Henri Oreiller Cup downhill in Val d’Isere while St Anthony’s High School in Manchester, NH, canceled its basketball season after two losses.
