State Police and Municipal Bills Head to Governor
INSAUART SPARROW BANKFORT Ky UPD The fal session of The General Assembly passed two laws sending measures on state police conditions and municipally owned electric utilities to the governor. The House also approved a minor bill on licensing and training of underground coal miners. The Senate took up a House bill requiring common Files Inc customers of municipally owned electric utilities to begin January 1 1978.

Oilman disputes Miller coal claim in West Virginia
Oil spokesman Robert R. Bowers of the West Virginia Petroleum Council contests United Mine Workers President Arnold Miller’s claim that oil firms own 70 percent of coal reserves and 45 percent of working mines. He says only nine of about 600 coal firms are oil companies and oil groups own less than 25 percent of U S coal reserves deemed mineable. Exxon is the largest oil firm with about 10 percent of oil market share but under 1 percent of coal production and less than 4 percent of reserves. He argues oil participation aids coal industry growth and research as energy needs rise.
