Substitute Santa Miller Brings Joy From North Pole
Don Miller has spent 27 years as a Santa Claus figure at Santa Claus House in North Pole Alaska. He receives about 0.5 percent of all letters sent to Santa worldwide, processing 70 000 to 80 000 letters annually. Visitors and families seek personal letters as well as in-person visits, with Miller mailing thousands of personalized letters to children and supporting hospital and orphanage kids. His family plans to continue the tradition with his son Michael stepping in for him.

Gov Carroll seeks to keep Tappan in Kentucky plant
Kentucky Governor Julian Carroll told reporters he would use all legal means to prevent the Tappan Stove Co from moving its Murray plant and ending a strike by Local 1068 of the United Auto Workers. About 550 workers have been on strike since June 1975 over a contract dispute. The company has faced losses and may relocate to Dalton, Georgia, after purchasing a plant there. Carroll stressed Kentucky’s environmental and labor factors and pledged to act to keep the facility.
