Tobacco Curing Conditions Said Good Over the Weekend

Kentucky weather bulletin notes good curing conditions over the weekend with light rain in parts of the state. A cold front from Canada will reach the Ohio River by Tuesday afternoon, bringing warmer conditions tonight in the north and cooler temperatures for Kentucky Tuesday night. Scattered showers and cooler conditions are expected Tuesday and Tuesday night ahead of the front. Winds shift from south to north, 10 to 20 mph, with fair and cool conditions by Wednesday. Western and northern Kentucky see sunny, warmer weather today, highs near 60s to mid 70s. Central regions: fair and warmer, highs 80s near 85, with scattered showers Tuesday. Humidity 49 to 65 percent. barley-friendly conditions noted. Barns should be opened per University of Kentucky agronomists.

Billy Graham Heart Rally Moves From Times Square

Waterfield To Attend Harlan Event

Acting Governor Harry Lee Waterfield will join dignitaries at the seventh annual Mack Diamond Festival in Harlan on September 6 and 7. Nineteen queen candidates will be feted with dinners brunches and events. Scholarships of 500 300 and 200 will be awarded to top candidates. Over fifteen thousand spectators expected to view a forty unit parade featuring the 1st Airborne Division Band.

Nelson John S. of Pine Mills dies after long illness

John S. Nelson of Pine Mills Route 1 died after an extended illness. He was born in Childeren and was son of the late Calvin and Sally Nelson. He owned the former Fajzabed Stiner and was a retired miner formerly with South oun Mining Canyony at Balkin Ky. Survived by several sons and daughters and many grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Balkan School House with multiple ministers officiating. Burial followed at Alkan Cemetery. Pallbearers and choir provided minor details.
