Prohibition officers reported a major wholesale liquor smuggling conspiracy centered near Savannah Ga. An arrest wave touched a banker lawyer and many citizens who faced federal commissioners and were released on bail. The scheme allegedly moved alcohol from France and Cuba via Jacksonville to Charleston and other hubs including Louisville Chicago Cincinnati New York City.
J B Williamson aged 3 died at home on Exeter Avenue. Funeral set for tomorrow with Rev Marlin of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Labollette. Survived by five sons Robert Howard Bite of this city James of Monroe Mich Charles of Hingis two daughters Mrs ML J Williamson of this city and Mrs W Mayes of Monroe Mich two sisters and a brother Diether.

In Taleigil North Carolina a federal warrant charged Lieut Governor WB Cooper his brother Thomas his son Marae and Lassiter a business associate with conspiracy and fraud to wreck the defunct bank funds at a distant location. All were released on bond.

George Day sustained facial burns when an Elks fireworks display he helped with exploded. Others nearby were hurt but only lightly burned as medical staff provided dressing and aid.
Entries for the fall meeting of the Kentucky Trotting Thoroughbred Breeders Association were announced by secretary J. W. Willing. The event runs October 1 to 13 with horses and fillies aged two and three set to compete in Lexington.
Amid rising tensions in Steubenville Ohio a clash involving Klansmen and local groups followed a heated mayoral election. Darwin Gibson reportedly associated with the Klan was wounded and Jabu Desaot hospitalised after an eye wound. In Tazewell Tennessee Aug 16 Sher A J Greer and deputies chased Greene Lynch after information linked him to whisky manufacture and sales. They found a hot copper still, a gallon of whisky, and beer jars in the garrel. Lynch fled about a mile but was not overtaken. his wife complained of harassment as neighbors allegedly pester him for money.
Owensboro August 10 children in Riverview park receive free shower baths during hot weather by order of Mayor lickin. Fire Chief Cureton to attach the sprinkler nozzle to the fire hose for a Saturday afternoon shower, with kids invited to attend in swimwear or old clothes.
The Rev. William I. Powell assistant pastor of the First Baptist Church has accepted a call to Walling Creek. He has been doing mission work there for the past few weeks and returned to Middlesboro to prepare his family for the move.
