Bunche Park Playground Opens with Cab Calloway
A Sunday ceremony at Bunche Playground in Bunche Park Opa Locka marked its opening. Cab Calloway tut the ribbon with local leaders Elmer Hecht Amos Jenkins and Osceola Chapman present. The Gaines Construction Company donated the ground and Wometco Theatres funded the equipment from opening night receipts. The Dorsey High School band provided music under David Paschal.

Florida state board of control told a Negro delegation that only a U S Supreme Court decision or a constitutional amendment could end racial segregation in state colleges. The board said it lacked authority to act and cited existing rulings and funding for Florida A and M College. Delegation leaders included John A Diaz of the Pittsburgh Courier and Leonard Lewis of Afro-American Insurance Co.
