Miami Gets Elks Nat's '08 Confab

The Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World chose Miami as the site for its 1958 Grand Lodge Convention. W O Perry exalted ruler Atlas Lodge No. 08 and James Richardson Rudolph Pullum Burt Jackson campaigned for Miami. Local lodges and the Convention Bureau supported the bid as 15,000 delegates and visitors are expected for the event in 1958.

Urban League awards Thalheimer Prize to Wilkerson

Frank Val Wilkerson of the Greater Miami Urban League receives the 1956 Thalheimer Award valued at $200 from Mrs. Regina M. Andrews in Cincinnati. The prize supports a scholarship fund for college students as the Urban League directs the finest vocational guidance program among 62 affiliates.

School Integration Hearing Cancelled

A federal suit filed by West Palm Beach attorney G E Gravee against the state pupil assignment law led to the cancellation of a planned Dade County School Board hearing. Supt W R Thomas said all requests were withdrawn and assignments adjusted. two Negro children who sought admission to white schools will not attend the hearing.

Bertram Moss twenty of 1606 NW 3rd avenue was sentenced to four years and three months in prison on a second degree murder conviction Judge Ben Willard deducted nine months Moss already served for killing Lloyd Irving in a club on June 4 1955 Moss also pleaded guilty to aggravated assault Moss drew a pistol from his shirt and fired four shots three missed Irving and the fourth struck him dead

Estranged Husbands Shoot In Perrine Love Tangle

Three people were seriously wounded in Perrine Sunday night when James Gardner Sr. shot Mrs. Lucille Middlebrook and Mrs. Carrie Gardner after seeing Alton Browning leave Mrs. Gardner’s home. Gardner, who was with Trudy Browning, turned himself in at Patrol Station No. 4.
