Final Night of 80th American Legion Convention in Miami
More than 10 000 Legionnaires wrapped up the 80th annual convention in Dinner Key hangars. Philadelphia led a hopeful bid for 1949 with concessions, while Miami later invited the group for next year. A Tuesday night parade drew about 20 000 spectators, but tropical rain ruined part of the events and reduced the parade turnout.

Bethune to appear on Demo Record Show October 25
Congressman George Smathers reports that Mary McLeod Bethune will join the Demo Record Show on ABC for an afternoon program sponsored by the Democratic National Committee. Born in 1875 in Mayesville, South Carolina, Bethune rose from cotton fields to become a leading educator and one of Ida Tarbell’s top fifty American women.

Slum Clearance Group to Present First Report Monday
A community mass meeting will be held Monday October 25 at 8 p m at Mt Zion Baptist Church to hear the Miami Slum Clearance Committee first official report. David A Douglas says housing improvements lower rents will be addressed along with posts for Negro carriers FHA loans and related efforts. The event aims to inform Miami’s Negroes and the public about the committee’s activities and draws several hundred attendees.

Probe into Death After Home Burglary
Police and the sheriff's office opened an investigation into the death of Sylvester Flowers 36 of 360 NW 7th Street after a burglar shot him during a break in Tuesday night. Flowers died at Jackson Memorial hospital from a bullet wound lodged in his lung.

Community meeting to feature parade and speakers
A large outdoor parade will precede the meeting with participation from local bands. National and local speakers will address the gathering. Churches schools civic and fraternal groups are urged to send representatives to the important meeting at Mt. Zion Baptist on Monday October 2 at 7 p.m. Rev Edward T Graham is the pastor.
