A Circuit court jury found Woodrow Williams, 26, guilty of manslaughter in the December 30, 1949 stabbing death of his wife Laura Mae Williams in their bedroom at 1833 NW 2nd Ave. Circuit Judge William A. Hertin withheld sentence and continued bond.
Dr William M Boyd head of Political Science at Atlanta University will headline the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Achievement Week events during November 12 to 13. A public meeting at Mt Zion Baptist Church 3:30 PM Sunday features introductions by Prof Donald Sprague. Fellowship banquet Monday at 8:30 PM at Mt Zion Refectory honors outstanding citizen and active service members as part of the Human Rights theme aligned with UNESCO rights.
The Miami Master Singers switch their regular Sunday program from WQAM to WGBS. They will air from 10 05 to 10 30 each Sunday, expanding their broadcast reach on the new station.
Willie M. Davis, 28, of Princeton, received a one year sentence for culpable negligence after a January 21 crash killed a 70 year old woman as she walked into his car. The judge noted mitigating circumstances and an appeal was signaled by defense counsel A. D. Hubbard.

The Naval Reserve Corps Training Program will award about 1600 four year scholarships for 1951 62 nationwide including territories and possessions. In Miami the Greater Miami Urban League partners with the Naval Recruiting Station and Booker T Washington High School hosts the information session. Applications are due by November 18 with exams the first week in December. Scholarships cover tuition fees books and equipment plus 600 annual personal expense stipend.
Five men, including one identified as White, were charged this week with stealing 60 new refrigerators and electric stoves valued at $6,000 from completed but unoccupied Bunche Park homes. Assistant County Solicitor H. S. Shapiro filed 37 counts of breaking and entering.
Edward Jackson, 42, of 1940 Golden Glades Road, masterminded the operation in a case tied to grand larceny. Accomplices include Caroll Fuller, 35, Theodore Jackson, 38, and Wadrey L. Bager, 34, with Abraham Gotlieb, operator of a bar, named as an accessory. Authorities recovered 36 stoves in a storeroom on South Miami Avenue and eight refrigerators elsewhere.
Floridians from Key West to Pensacola praise Florida A and M President Dr George W Gore for a bold six point program. Inaugural ceremonies highlighted homecoming with tributes from faculty students alumni and organization heads as Gore outlined plans for expansion including new buildings and a full university system.

In Chicago Stadium on Wednesday night Sugar Ray Robinson decisively defeated Miami’s Bobby Dykes. One judge scored it a draw but Robinson controlled the bout, showing mastery while Dykes showed grit and potential, with Robinson praising the young fighter’s future prospects and experience.
Major league All-Stars and the Indianapolis Clowns drew 8 704 fans at Miami Stadium as the Clowns edged the stars 7-6 in a thrilling barnstorming exhibition. Campanella led with 3 for 5 while Jackie Robinson went 2 for 4 and Doby 1 for 4.
