Beauticians Converge for 19th Orange Blossom Meet
About 500 delegates and visitors converge on Miami for the 19th Annual Orange Blossom Beauticians Association convention at the Mary Elizabeth Hotel. The four day event features a Sunday public meeting with Rev. Edward T. Graham, a Monday queen crowning and parade, an oratorical contest, Tuesday’s hair style show and dance, and officer and delegate elections Wednesday ahead of Detroit’s August convention. Mrs Marian Muldrow leads as general chairman with hostesses from Units 7 42 and 55.

Crash Involving Several Cars On Highway Leaves Five Hurt
Cockerman drove a 1% ton truck loaded with bricks and cement at about 45 mph southbound with Sykes as passenger. The truck sideswiped a northbound convertible driven by Gaines, then turned sideways and was struck broadside by a second northbound car carrying McKinney Williams Spears and Harvey. The impact sent the convertible off the road as bricks spilt onto the pavement and into a third vehicle. Cockerman and Sykes are white.

Four county high schools will graduate 607 students in commencement activities next week. Northweek Senior High, formerly Dorsey, will award 270 diplomas. Booker T. Washington will graduate 214. Carver Coconut Grove 45. Mays Goulds 45. Baccalaureate exercises begin Sunday June 3, with Northwestern on June 5, Mays June 6, Booker T. Washington June 7, and Carver June 7 at respective venues.

Daytona Woman Dynamited to Death
A dynamite blast at a Daytona Beach rooming house killed Mae Spalding Hester, 45, who attended Bethune-Cookman College classes. Police hold her ex husband Lonnie Hester, 57, and Will Stone, 56, plus a 28 year old woman, for questioning. Virgil Harris, 52, injured by falling plaster. four other tenants shaken. Aaron Robinson, owner, said she moved in two weeks ago after release from a tuberculosis sanitarium in Orlando.

Alabama Uni Gets Second Application for Admission
In Birmingham Alabama a second Afro American student applied for admission to the University of Alabama though the university had not officially recognized the application. Attorney Arthur Shores identified the applicant as Billy Joe Nabors a senior at Talladega College. The university challenged a court order barring segregation arguing for a three judge panel.

Negroes Win Right to Public Beaches at Delray
Federal Judge Emmet Choate dismissed a suit by Negroes seeking admission to Delray Beach facilities. NAACP attorney Francisco Rodriguez said the ruling creates an official policy on access. Four Black swimmers used the beach that afternoon without incident, while a cross was set on fire near the Ace High Night Club on Beach.

AME Elects Bishops in Historic Conference Closing
The 35th Quadrennial AME general conference ended after electing five new bishops. Rev. Ernest L. Hickman was chosen late Monday, with three more bishops elected near dawn Tuesday, including Rev. W. F. Bell, Rev. S. R. Higgins, Rev. O. S. Sherman, and Rev. Francis Gow of South Africa. Gow became the first African named to a post, and most new appointees hailed from the southern U.S. region. Over 40 candidates vied for the five bishop posts.
