At a Saturday night White Citizens Council rally in Clearwater Florida Bill Hendrix defended Kasper as a political prisoner. Hendrix introduced Kasper as a drag on of the Southern Knights of the Ku Klux Klan after a Florida legislative committee proved Kasper dated Negro girls and attended numerous integrated functions.

Haitian Cabinet Resigns After Death Penalty Decree

Port au Prince Haiti the entire cabinet resigned handing their resignations to Provisional President Frank Sylvain shortly after the government decreed the death penalty for subversive activities. Haiti plans to elect a president on April 28 to replace ousted strongman Paul Magliore amid ongoing disorders.

City Denies Move To Oust Legree

The Miami City Commission declined to act against Frank Legree who bought a home in a White neighborhood. Acting City Attorney Jack Rice advised dropping the matter citing no applicable law and potential restraining orders. The commission followed his advice and closed the case.

Birmingham Nixes Bus Fines Appeal

Atty Arthur D Shores says twenty one Negroes convicted under Birmingham's bus segregation law will not appeal. They will pay the $50 fines and $5 costs each and await the outcome of their petition in U S District Court seeking a declaration that the ordinance is unconstitutional.

Trial delayed for segregationist charged with disorderly conduct

The scheduled trial of segregationist Fred B Hackett for disorderly conduct during a picketing at Frank Legree’s in an all white Miami area was continued to April 9. Judge Mitchell Goldman granted the continuance at attorney J T Gordon’s request. Hackett, his wife, and Mr and Mrs W B Campbell are named in the charges.

Patrolman Mitchell Released After Race Tension in Shooting

Harold Mitchell a six year Miami police veteran was freed after two nights of questioning in the shotgun killing of Police Capt L G Nolle. All Negro patrolmen under Nolle are being summoned for questioning while Mitchell remains suspended awaiting a records from Atlantic City where he resigned to join Miami police. No charges filed.
