City Court judges impose jail terms over fines in a new crackdown on drunken driving. Virginia interracial marriage case dismissed by Supreme Court

The U S Supreme Court vacated a Virginia ruling on an interracial marriage case involving Ham Say Naim and Ruby Elaine Naim. The Portsmouth Court had 1952 marriage of a Chinese seaman and a White woman invalidated. The Virginia Supreme Court found the Portsmouth record adequate for decision. Naim argued states restrict marriage and violate equal protection and due process.

Lord Calvert Hotel to be renamed Sir John Schenley

Reliable sources tell the TIMES the Miami hotel will keep ownership but shed its name. The Lord Calvert at 276 N W Sixth Street is slated to become Sir John Schenley after negotiations, reflecting its status as a premier winter destination with luxury decor, saltwater pool, and famed guests.
