Fort Lauderdale golf course must integrate, judge rules

Federal Judge Ernett C Choate ruled in Miami that Fort Lauderdale violated Negroes rights under the 14th amendment by barring them from the municipal golf course and ordered integration. The order becomes effective in 10 days pending appeal with a hearing on a city motion to keep the course segregated during appeal.

Mrs Capitola Solomon Dies In Miami Home

Mrs Capitola Solomon mother of B Solomon owner of the B Solomon Funeral Home died at her home 315 NW 16th St Thursday afternoon. A Miami resident since 1926 she also leaves a sister Mrs Irmno Rogers of Jacksonville. Native of Monticello Florida she was a Mt Zion Baptist Church member and part of local civic groups. Funeral arrangements by Dade County Morticians' Association are incomplete.

Florida Legislator John Orr Wins American Heritage Award

State Rep. John B. Orr Jr. of Miami, who opposed school segregation in the Florida Legislature, was chosen by the Fund for the Republic for an American Heritage award. The 37-year-old attorney received the national honor at a banquet in Washington. Orr had criticized Florida House bills to preserve segregation in 1956 and urged gradual integration.

Hendricks sentenced to twenty years for manslaughter

Allen W. Hendricks 32 pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received the maximum 20 year Florida sentence for the October 29 death of Joe Gainer 24 after a drinking party in Hendricks room at Grand Avenue. Murder trial was canceled and Hendricks had been jailed since the incident.

Freight theft arrests spark extensive loot probe

Eleven men and three teenage boys were arrested this week by sheriff's deputies over a string of freight car robberies totaling about 25000 dollars in stolen radios, TVs, phonographs, whiskey and appliances from Florida East Coast Railroad cars. One car at 6950 Northwest 24th Avenue was set afire at the Sears Roebuck warehouse siding, causing about 2000 dollars in damage to destroy evidence. The eleven men face grand larceny suspicions while the youths were placed in Youth Hall.

Mrs Ratcliffe to Speak At Forum Sunday

Ida Ratcliffe principal of Northwestern Senior High School will address the King of Clubs Forum at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Sunday February 24 at 3 45 p m. She heads a 1280 pupil school with 68 staff and holds memberships in several professional groups.
