Engrase Wins Electrical Permit At Daytona

The Daytona Beach IBEW local faced a court suit for racial discrimination and denying Negroes union membership. The court ordered a temporary permit for a Negro contractor, George Engram head of Engram Electrical Co. The ruling noted no Negro was or has been a member of the local union though qualified.

Slayer Bound Over For First Degree Murder Charge

Howard Ellis of 3340 Grand Ave Coconut Grove is bound over to the Dade County Grand Jury on a first degree murder charge following a combined preliminary hearing and coroner's inquest into the July 28 fatal shooting of Pauline Terry. Ellis, held without bond, did not testify. Mrs Terry, killed six times in a small grocery at 3547 Grand Ave, was identified as Leroy Terry's wife. Ellis surrendered to West Palm Beach police hours later and admitted the shooting. Prosector says store owner Normand Goldin reported the incident and noted only a girl and the clerk were inside. Mrs Terry’s body was shipped to Ocilla Georgia for funeral services.

Young Demos To Ail Stand On Desegregation

The Dade County Young Democratic Association met Tuesday August 9 at Solomon's Funeral Home to study desegregation in Dade County public schools. It plans to announce a formal position soon and will cooperate with the school board and support the local NAACP in pushing for integration with deliberate speed. Commissioner H Leslie Quigg attended, discussing campaign issues. The September meeting will focus on the November city commission race.

First all Negro jury in Wichita Falls quietly acquits

In Wichita Falls Texas six Negro women were empaneled in the peace justice court to hear three Negro defendants charged with watching a dice game. After ten minutes deliberation they returned a not guilty verdict. The judge called the jury understanding and cooperative.

Fire Destroys Eight Dorsey Classrooms Soon After Arson

A Sunday afternoon blaze at Dade County destroys eight classrooms at Dorsey, with investigators linking the fire to arson. Firefighters from Hialeah and Miami battled the flames as two nearby buildings suffered targeted fires. No deaths reported. two firefighters treated for injuries. Police and fire units reinforced crowd control as the incident drew spectators.

1941 Alabama slaying fugitive arrested in Coral Gables

Albert L. Gainey, 49, of Montgomery, convicted of a 1941 Alabama killing, was captured in Coral Gables after fingerprints matched FBI records. He walked off a road gang in 1941, fled to Florida in 1945, and will be extradited. Pinder Found Guilty In Tax Evasion Case

Howard Pinder known as MM bolita king was found guilty by a federal jury on one count of tax evasion after a trial that began July 12. He faces a penalty of 89,130 dollars and five years in prison. A motion for a new trial will be filed by his defense.
