Florida teachers to gather at 57th convention
Dade County hosts the 57th Annual Florida State Teachers Association convention at Booker T. Washington High School April 13 to 15. about 4 000 delegates will attend sessions on democracy in education with speakers from Ohio State Rollins College Hampton Institute and the University of Miami among others. The program includes a Friday night address by FSTA president G L Porter and a Saturday morning session with State Superintendent Thomas Bailey. A Thursday barbecue and a musical festival are planned, with events continuing on page 19.

The 3rd annual Easter Sunrise Service and Pageant by the Young Business Men Club is set for Sunday April 9 at 5 00 a m at Virginia Beach with a 25 ft cross and Mt Zion Baptist Church choir of 100. Youth Faces Life For Murder In Oregon Laundry
Leon C. Childs age 18 was found guilty of first degree murder with mercy recommended for killing Frank Ball a 67 year old night watchman at J. J. Sloane Cleaners on 1820 NW First Ave in December. Police captured him days later during a separate attempted robbery. Childs resided with his mother at 181844 NW First Ave next door to the cleaners. The verdict requires a mandatory life sentence with sentencing set within a week.

Labor Pool to Be Established by IRC for Negro Workers
The Industrial Relations Committee of the Negro Service Council launches a Labor Pool following a March meeting with labor leaders and Negro craftsmen. Dr. Charles Drew, renowned pioneer in blood plasma, dies in a highway crash near Burlington, North Carolina. Slum Killer ordinance moves in Miami plan
Miami city commission on Wednesday passed a tough slum killer ordinance backed by a planning board redevelopment outline to be discussed at a Monday public meeting. Third Child Slayer Given 10 Years
Malcolm Whitt, 32, was sentenced to 10 years in the state penitentiary after changing his plea from not guilty of murder to guilty of manslaughter in the January triple-slaying of the Harris family near Kosciusko Mississippi. His brother Windel Whitt, 26, and Leon Turner, 38, received life terms. The trio, all White, shot the Harris family in a case the state said stemmed from a belief Harris had reported them for housebreaking.
