Health Insurance Bill Faces Uncertain Political Path

Senate Finance Committee nears a consensus on a health insurance bill aiming for passage this year but faces hurdles. Key issues include president support, potential Republican backing, and calls from lawmakers for a broader measure. The plan would cover catastrophic illness after $2,000 or 60 hospital days and replace Medicaid for poor families with national standards. Financing relies on Social Security tax rise and general revenues. Weather outlook predicts wetter and colder conditions for Ledgerland.

In Charleston, Rev. Charles Quigley said Christians should pray for God to decide whether three Kanawha County Board of Education backers should be killed, later claiming he meant only that God’s will be done. He cited possible biblical acts like Goliath as possible outcomes and denied wishing harm. The dispute arose amid a textbook protest and resulting jail sentences for protest leaders. Kansas City text mentions union workers approving a 17 percent two-year wage deal to end a long strike.
