Teacher Sues For Retirement Pay
Mrs. William Lawrie of Jefferson City filed suit in Missouri Supreme Court claiming the public school retirement system violates federal and state constitutions. She argues teachers with menos five years’ service face discrimination and that quitting before five years yields only personal contributions, no district contributions or their interest. She notes under ten percent of contributors ever receive benefits and many do not receive Social Security credits, leaving such teachers worse off than if no system existed.
