Hopes For a Mobile Force In Post Vietnam Army Plans
Army planners aim to create a mobile corps able to deploy quickly overseas using Air Force C5 transports and Navy sealift. The force would include the 82nd Airborne and possibly the 101st Airmobile, with options like the 1st Calgary Division. Budget cuts and a mandated 60,000 man reduction threaten readiness as the Army trims divisions and lowers tank and artillery unit sizes.
