Slight Drop in Feeder Calves Prediction by Dale Schwarre

Feeder cattle prices are expected to ease seasonally in fall 1972 with heavier fleshy feeders showing more weakness. Meat Import Bill Loses Steam In House Debate

The House bill to permanently remove foreign meat import restrictions stalls in Ways and Means under Wilbur Mills. sponsor Rep. Charlies A. Vanik argues for lower prices and greater supply, but opposition from rural lawmakers remains strong despite recent price drops and a temporary six month relaxation. Meat imports have risen, with 700 million pounds in through July and a projection of 128 million more in 1972, while consumers expect 23 billion pounds. Experts note multiple factors behind price declines and caution that permanent quota repeal could threaten the livestock economy.

The process uses a computer to return fertilizer recommendations for the next four crops, with samples best taken in fall and sent via fertilizer dealer or extension center for follow up.
