French Communal Farming Expands in France
Washington AP reports France is expanding communal farming to boost youth interest in farming. About 2,000 such farms exist under a 1962 law aimed at larger, more efficient production. In Burgundy a six person group formed a communal farm in 1967 focusing on pig rearing across 740 acres, targeting 3,000 slaughter hogs yearly with less labor. Members share a manager role, meet weekly, and each serves a specialty area, with at least 15 days yearly for study to boost productivity.
