Hijack Victims From Amman Move To Cyprus And Beirut
The 66 flown to Nicosia along with 171 hijack victims were taken to Amman shortly after diversion. Twenty headed for Beirut were among 23 later driven to the capital Friday. Two Americans, Mr and Mrs Thomas Rogero of Knoxville, Tenn, remained in Amman under medical care for a heart condition. A second Amman to Nicosia flight was canceled, with a State Department spokesman citing nighttime takeoffs as the reason. Guerrilla notes aboard a BOAC jet threatened to blow up the plane, while a stewardess urged release and a flight engineer called the situation desperate. Red Cross officials in Geneva drew criticism from the captors but were mollified by Red Cross delegate Andre Rochat in Amman.
