Boulevard Paving Hopeful After Low Bid

Mexico City Manager Gary Elde expects West Boulevard street paving to start soon if Hardys Inc. is approved at the Monday council meeting. The Shelbyville firm bid 297,994.24, the lowest of four bids opened Aug. 24, covering a half mile from South Clark to Morris. Abutting owners pay 8 per frontage foot for the first 60 feet and 4 for each additional foot, funding about eight percent of costs. Major funding comes from 281,500 in the 1976 community development budget and 190,000 FAU funds. The project includes 45 foot pavement with curbs, sewers, sidewalks, and drainage. The council also weighs a five-home subdivision ordinance and a 911 emergency number system agreement with Southwestern Bell to possibly install by next July.
