County records reveal Audrain Public Water District No. 2 will lay eleven miles of water main to serve 54 new customers north and west of Mexico. Lt. Col. Robert A. confirms the plan and purpose in official correspondence.
A two and a half day fire burned 2,500 acres of timber and brush in a future recreation area at the Clarence Cannon Dam and Reservoir site south of Monroe City. It started due to human carelessness, was contained by a Monroe City and Perry fire crew, and caused two abandoned buildings to be destroyed. No injuries were reported.
London AP Charles, 25, heir to the throne, says he is slightly irritated by the publicity of his reported romances. He accepts it as part of media treatment but notes it makes things difficult for a girlfriend. He adds it has nothing to do with who he wants to marry at the moment.
State Auditor John Ashcroft tours central Missouri promoting a November 5 ballot initiative for a campaign disclosure law. He cites past legislative inaction, defends full asset and contribution disclosure, and emphasizes restoring public trust through ethical campaigning and openness. He travels Mexico to Macon and Sedalia, also learning to fly during the tour.
JOPLIN Mo AP Dr Hugh Wamble of Kansas City has been re elected president of the Missouri Baptist Convention He is professor of church history at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City The three day convention ends tonight.
Principal William E. Lowry announced Mexico High School will host College Day on Friday afternoon. Forty five institutions including Missouri colleges trade schools and all armed services branches will present information sessions for students and parents starting at 1 p.m. in the gym.
Rabbi Baruch Korff reports his President Nixon Justice Fund shows 993,428 in the red with mounting bills. He says the fund has 9,325 on hand and owes 77,753 to Herbert J. Miller firm plus a 31,000 loan, with an additional 221,000 expected in legal fees.
