Prosecutor Inquires Into Political Ad
Jefferson City AP Byron Kinder Cole County prosecuting attorney asked two highway patrol investigators to probe a Republican cartoon ad in the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. He said the ad could bias the Cole County grand jury examining alleged wrongdoing in State Treasurer William E. Robinson’s office. The inquiry followed a complaint by Thomas Guilfoil of St Louis. Sgt John N Kiriakos and Sgt Joe Patrick visited Republican state headquarters after Kinder’s request. Tom Reed, manager there, said officers were courteous and did not seek ad cancellation. The grand jury, convened Oct , is reviewing reports that Robinson took 2500 from James Crismon, ex-president of the defunct Bonne Terre bank, amid related charges. Robinson claimed the money funded a campaign. The panel has questioned Crismon, his two sons, Robinson, and others. Kinder said the investigation continues Monday.

Nixon UN bid for peace unlikely to yield quick results
AP reports diplomats say President Nixon's UN speech may not quickly alter U S Soviet tensions. Belgium's Spaak calls it a long road while Gromyko remains noncommittal. Nixon urged peaceful competition not arms buildup, urging both powers to curb differences for world peace. He spotlighted risks of nuclear exchange, arms costs, and potential gains from trade. He urged a cease fire in Vietnam and peace talks, and called for reducing hunger and disease globally.
