Cattle Triumph at Bachelor as Limousin Line Rises
The Hamilton area near Bachelor shifts from hounds to cattle as six Limousin Angu s crossbred steers win the grand champion pen of five at the American Royal. The steers, born in Nebraska and averaging 508 pounds, sold as feeders for about $1.28 per pound. The Rocking J Limousin Ranch near Fulton plans a purebred herd, with Nehrings buying the old farm and transforming it into pasture and hayfields. Gene Hamilton, Fulton postmaster’s son and Callaway County prosecutor, maintains ties to fox hounds and hopes to revive the breed.
