Parttime Workers Get Tax Exemption
CHICAGO Students and part time and retired workers may be eligible for an exemption from tax withholding provided by the Tax Reform Act of 1989. Commerce Clearing House notes eligibility relieves students or others with large itemized deductions from filing to obtain a refund of withheld taxes. A new withholding exemption Form WAE is available for wages paid after April 30, 1970. A single person earning under 1725 owes no tax based on a 1100 low income allowance and a 625 personal exemption. A taxpayer over 65 may earn up to 2350 without tax liability. Final regulations on these provisions have not been issued and revisions may be made.
