School Thought to Close District Would Join Mexico
School records recount a once large institution now closed and sending pupils to Mexico. Suburban growth near Mexico boosted enrollment, prompting a tax levy rise. Voters rejected a higher levy and annexation to Mexico, then approved a levy equal to Mexico’s. Next August the district will cease to exist under a new state law, merging with Mexico. The building housed a store, desks, and old books, with about an acre of land believed to belong to the district outright.
