Teamsters Pension Fund Probed Over Allegations of Gangster Control
A Labor Department auditing team is reviewing Central States, Southeast and Southwest Areas Pension Fund records to assess possible gangster influence and whether corrective or enforcement actions are needed under new pension laws. The probe, announced to Sen. Williams, could expand to subpoena records and joint Justice Department actions. The fund has funded loans to resorts and casinos and Hoffa’s disappearance fuels scrutiny. Also, William C Fields III sworn in as assistant U.S. attorney in the bank robbery division.
