Auchly Farm Treasure Trove of Indian Artifacts
Wellsville area farm of William J Auchly and family hosts a rich display of Indian lore. Arrow heads, a stone axe, grain grinder and skin scrapers sit among cairn graves, platform stones, and creek-filled relics. Local historians dated a cairn at about 1000 years old. Land grants connected to Jackson and Taylor presidents weave through the property lineage. The 17-room Kerwin house, renovated with antiques, anchors generations of ownership including a log cabin added to the kitchen. The site preserves mussel-rich creek evidence and ancient trails across a ridge with views of an old landscape.

Set Aside Plans Due Next Month
The Agriculture Department will announce the 1973 acreage set aside for feed grains in late November or early December. No details on the required idle land amount were given. Brunthaver cited rising feed exports, including strong sales to the Soviet Union, as increasing demand for next year’s corn, sorghum, oats, and barley. He projected 1972-73 feed exports at about 28.5 million tons, near the 29.1 million-ton record from six years earlier, and a 1973 harvest carryover of 41 million tons, down seven million from this year but above the 1971 reserve of 33 million.

Time Short For Farmers Tax Management in 1972
Farmers face 58 shopping days before Christmas and many must plan income tax management for 1972. Moisture variations and mixed yields across east central Missouri affect taxable income, while favorable livestock prices raise tax liability. Prepare records, use income averaging, buy needed assets now, delay sales, review credits, and consider depreciation options. Limited copies of North Central Regional Publication No. 2 will be available through University of Missouri Extension Centers.
