The piece maps shifting demographics from 1960 to 1970, white flight, and calls for action amid a volatile mix of anger, frustration, and demands for protection.

Former Mexicoan's Kin Shot Killed
The mother and brother of Mrs. Charles Sullivan were shot and killed Saturday in Ava Missouri during a custody dispute over four children. Mrs Nona Lawson 77 and Carl Emory Lawson 41 died after the incident outside Dorothy Lawson's mobile home on Route 5 south of Ava. The 16 year old son by a former marriage is held as a suspect and faces juvenile or adult charges. The Sullivans were visiting a football game in Oklahoma and learned of the deaths upon returning home to Texas where he pastors Arlington Heights Baptist Church. The caseworker from the county welfare department accompanied the boy and the parents during custody proceedings. The shooting followed a lengthy custody battle dating to the divorce in February 1972 and involving hearing, conferences, and a judge's rulings. The Lawson family links trace back to California where Lawson claimed abuse and prior residence. The infant child of Airman First Class and Mrs David Welch born in Florida is noted with grandparents listed.
