CMSU Got Over Five Million From Inflated Enrollment
State Auditor John D. Ashcroft said Central Missouri State University received more than 5 million too much in two years due to inflated enrollment figures. An audit cited 10 056 fulltime students for 1972 73 were overstated by 2 732 to 3 214. Legislators questioned whether miscounts were intentional. CMSU president Warren Lovinger refused to resign. Ashcroft noted over-appropriation of 3.1 3.7 million for 1972 73 and 1.7 2.3 million for 1973 74, with review planned of enrollment methods by the legislature and HE Commission. Enrollment audits of other state universities will follow.
