Money Men To Try For World Plan

Treasury Secretary John B. Connally and finance ministers from the wealthiest non Communist nations plan a three day Group of Ten meeting in Rome to pursue a broad package. A new dollar value, an end to the 10 percent import surcharge, and promises from Japan and the European Market to raise U S imports may be sought. Analysts doubt a single session will reach final terms, hoping for progress toward a long term reserve system and a temporary settlement to curb the U S balance of payments deficit. The surmise is the move toward currency revaluation would curb imports and boost U S exports, with Western currencies advancing against the dollar. Western governments seek a more permanent reserve system, likely taking months or years to develop.
