Sedalia eyed as Safeguard site impact looms
Sedalia and surrounding towns in central Missouri face a possible boost from a Safeguard Ballistic Missile Defense site near Whiteman AFB. A temporary command center will close Nov. 20 after preliminary surveys. permanent offices await site selection. Estimates call for 300 acres for radar and four 50 acre launch sites, with 3,000 to 4,000 workers likely affecting housing and local business growth. Local realtors, builders, movers, and trailer parks anticipate demand, while Army spokesmen caution on timing and emphasize a Community Impact Survey across Cooper, Morgan, Pettis, Johnson, Saline and Lafayette counties.
