Catholic Bishops Adopt Moral Values Letter in Washington
The National Council of Catholic Bishops reaffirmed the churches stand on sex conduct by approving a pastoral letter condemning divorce abortion out of wedlock and contraception. Some bishops criticized it as lacking compassion but the measure passed 172 to 65 despite delays. The letter calls sexual intercourse a moral and human good only within marriage and rejects any dissolution leading to remarriage.
