House Vote Fast On Benefit Boost
The House approved a Social Security bill to boost benefits for aged recipients by 11 percent next year, with a 7 percent rise in April and 4 percent in July. Funding comes from raising the taxable wage base to 13,200, increasing taxes for workers and employers. The measure also speeds welfare payments to the elderly poor, the blind and the disabled, and moves future cost-of-living raises to June.
