Red China Stand May Be Changing at the UN
Diplomats at the United Nations weigh whether a milder speech by the U S delegate signals a shift toward seating the People's Republic of China. Ambassador Phillips stresses expulsion of Nationalist China should not be tied to recognizing Peiping, amid talks of a two China solution and shifting votes from abstentions to yes. Canada and Italy recently moved toward recognizing Peking.

Leukemia Treatment Gives Hope
Scientists at St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis report optimism about a new treatment for acute lymphocytic leukemia. The drug and radiation combo shows a five year remission rate of 17 percent, suggesting the disease may no longer be considered incurable. Danny Thomas, founder of St. Jude, called it a potential cure on national TV, though doctors note remission for five years does not equal a cure. Previously the best remission rate was one percent.
