FTC Warning About Home Insulation
The Federal Trade Commission launches a drive against deceptive advertising in home insulation. About three million people have bought insulation since January, with many receiving lousysometimes unsafe products. The FTC warns 200 to 300 manufacturers of civil suits and fines up to 10 000 dollars a day for violations and may subpoena records. A new rule could require substantiated R-value ratings in ads and packaging within about a year. R-value measures insulation’s heat retention, and exaggerations or lab-based figures mislead buyers.
