Neighbors Struggle to Save Molino Store Fire
About 50 neighbors from up to six miles away helped fight an early morning fire that destroyed the Molino Store operated by E. H. Carlyle. Volunteers used water from a nearby pond to keep the blaze from gasoline pumps 20 feet south of the brick building. The fire, believed to have started at 7:15 am in the wood stove flue, left the store and its contents a total loss. Carlyle, who has run the business since 1953, had recently remodeled the former Molino Bank and post office.
