County Clerks Differ on Registration

In Jefferson City Missouri state election law study commission approved statewide voter registration efforts while debate raged over costs for small counties and rural areas. Some clerks backed compulsory registration to curb multiple voting. others led by Millard Willson of Texas County opposed it noting local knowledge suffices. The panel also eyed 18 year old voting alignment with federal rules and proposed abolishing township government in remaining counties. They endorsed mail registration for students and praised punch card ballots for fraud resistance, while voting hours stayed 6 am to 7 pm.
