Panel Finds No Criminal Wrongdoing in Weldon Spring Timber Sale
AP reports Rep. Steve Vossmeyer led a special probe into Weldon Spring timber sales and found no criminal activity. The timber sale earned University of Missouri about 44 000 dollars paid to logger Russell Porter and nearly 189 000 dollars gross, with Porter claiming strong profits. Homer L Hote, MU official, called the decision a judgement error while Porter defended his gains as better than expected. The House committee sought reasons for a lower price received and subpoenaed Porter and L Hote to clarify the 1976 77 sale in St Charles County.
