Urge Reseal for Beans Sparks Farm Group Appeal
Washington RP The National Farmers Union has urged Secretary Clifford Hardin to cancel last December’s decision that 1970 crop soybeans stored on farms are ineligible for reseal under price support. Union president Tony Dechant argues ample supplies exist through 1971 harvest and forcing beans into the market would depress prices and farm income. The department had said demand remained strong and reseal would let farmers redeem beans and sell on cash market. Under reseal the government stores mature loan crops and pays rental for storage.
