Bond Sees Difficult Task For Connally

NEW YORK AP Several moderate Republican governors say former Democrat John B Connally faces a difficult task in establishing his Republican credentials to win the 1976 GOP presidential nomination. Governors Evans Sargent Bond Ray Love say Connally may have to prove himself against established Republicans while conservatives Hathaway Williams think he won’t be at a disadvantage. The three day GOP governors conference ends with a state dinner at the Met and a discussion at Rockefellers Pocantico Hills estate. Watergate and indictments of John Mitchell and Maurice Stans dominated talks as the group declined to issue a joint statement. Bond said he hopes the trial of the indicted is fair.
