Largest Farms Grow Share and Presence in 1964 Missouri
A 1970 study details farms with sales over 100000 in 1964, noting 31000 such units, about 1 percent of all Missouri farms, but 9 percent of total sales. The report compares 1959 and 1964, reveals regional disparities, and highlights large farms’ labor use and crop focus despite lower labor efficiency per man-year. It also contrasts national trends with Missouri’s smaller share of huge operations.

Studies Compare Various Hybrid Seed Corn Crosses
Merle Vaughan reports on tests of 108 crosses from the same inbred lines, finding single crosses yield higher on average than three-way and double crosses with a wide yield range among single crosses. Best single cross outyielded best three-way by 14.2 bushels and double-cross by 22.8. Poorest performer was a single cross, 17.4 below the worst double-cross. Farmers should favor good single crosses but consider selective three-way crosses for some varieties. Also notes on chemical weed control for legume seedings, using 2 4 DB in grass legume mixes, timing and effects on yields.
