Predict Slump in Cattle Price Report
Washington AP The Agriculture Department forecasts fed cattle prices to slaughter will dip from April levels this spring and summer but still average the same or higher than last year. Hog prices remain weak due to near record supplies and are expected to average $2 to $4 below last summer's peak of 22.50 per hundredweight. Cattle prices last spring and summer at Omaha averaged just over 30 per hundredweight for choice steers. Feedlot cattle sales in Q2 and Q3 are expected to be higher than a year ago, possibly 5 to 8 percent more than winter levels.
