Senator Ernest F Hollings of South Carolina, chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee, opposed a proposal to extend the west front of the Capitol adding 285 offices and dining facilities. He warned the plan would make the Capitol resemble Disneyland and make the dome look like a beanie. He endorsed a cheaper approach to restore the current west front and add offices elsewhere on Capitol Hill.
