Signing Gives Voice To Retarded Children At Magnolia Center
At Magnolia Training Center in Valdosta Georgia speech therapist Alice Drake formerly Alice Andrews teaches sign language to five retarded students, including seven year old Todd Crider, enabling verbal signaling for thoughts. Drake, with a Master’s from North Missouri State University, began sign instruction two months ago after state officials suggested it for Todd’s communication. The program aims to extend language age and improve understanding, though class time limits prevent individual sessions for all 45 students.

New York AP: The U S Commerce Department weighs a FTC judge’s opinion that could enable palming off goods on shoppers. It warns the ruling might reshape common law, weaken trademarks, and even spur monopoly as it reviews Borden Inc’s ReaLemon dominance. The case centers on compulsory licensing of the ReaLemon trademark and a clash with patent licensing principles.
