Arrest Records Open Again At St. Louis

ST. LOUIS AP Police will relax their policy of closing arrest records to the public and press. Theodore D. McNeal, president of the Board of Police Commissioners, said the board will provide an arrest register for up to 30 days from the arrest date even if no charge is filed. The move follows criticism from groups including the ACLU and Women's Crusade against Crime after lawsuits by the Post-Dispatch and Globe-Democrat. The public outcry helped shape the reversal from the prior policy which kept most records closed.
